Over 1100 participants gathered at Okanagan Lake Saturday morning for the 69th annual Across the Lake Swim.
City Park was packed with swimmers, supporters and over 200 volunteers on July 15th for the annual open water swim.
The 2.1-k.m. swim is the largest running open water swim event in Canada, and considering it got its start in 1949, it’s one of the longest too.
The first swimmer to cross the swimming line, for the second year in a row, was Tim James Woinoski. Woinoski outdid himself this year with an impressive time of 22 minutes and 44 seconds.
The Woinoski's cleaned up this year as both Alex and Andrew Woinsoki filled in second and third place.
Despite the recent floods that hit Kelowna beaches earlier this summer, the swim was deemed quite nice.
“The conditions were great, it was awesome,” said one swimmer.
The swim is open to people of all ages and skill levels. In the 12 heats of swimmers that participated in the event, athletes ranged from seven to 86 years old.
